In Manizales, a pilot plan was adopted that regulate the use of cell phones in public and private schools. It is a test that began with three educational institutions: the La Consolata Campestre Gymnasium, the San Luis Gonzaga School and the Nuestra Señora del Rosario School. Precisely, next April 8, the Secretary of Education, Juan Carlos Gómez Montoya, will meet with the rectors of public schools to discuss the plan with them.
“The pilot plan arises from the continuing discomfort of teachers about the neglect of students for the use of cell phones. From this, we want to return to the attention that existed in public and private education when these devices did not exist, “commented the Secretary.
Gómez Montoya sadi that to this interest is added the example of the results in the Rosario School. In fact, the objective is that this model, which he qualified as “advanced”, is shared with the rest of the academic community. From this they want to know what the main impacts have been and from there, take lessons so that the pilots who come are more productive.
Peak and plate with devices
This year, the Colegio Nuestra Señora del Rosario, which leads the project, implemented a peak and plate system with cell phones. It started on Monday and after two weeks, it was added on Friday. This activity is described as a formative act so that students learn to use cell phones responsibly, can concentrate, do not interrupt classes and communicate verbally with their classmates during breaks.
“We implemented pockets for each room. The girls enter the classroom and deposit their cell phone in it; at the end of the day, they can take it again. Those who do not, will not have any sanctions, they will only be told: Mijita, you are doing well or not, “explained the rector of the College, Sr. Inés de Jesús Torres Duarte.
For his part, the Secretary of Education said that, in general, inattention “is causing ignorance, harms the result of the Saber Tests and the learning of the boys”. Finally, he said that this program will not be implemented at the universities for now.
